22 March 2011
As usual, it’s been a frantic – but productive – start to the year.
The good news is that I’ve finished editing my second novel and
the story has been tightened significantly, although it’s still
weighing in at 40% larger than FIVEFOLD. (Perhaps that might
have something to do with 2 separate timelines that are each the
length of a Young Adult novel?) Reviews from my test readers
have been very encouraging indeed and the consensus is that it’s
a significantly better novel than FIVEFOLD. So I’m content with
improvement this early in my writing career.
Preparation for the 2010 Aurealis Awards has also been intensifying as we draw ever nearer to the presentation ceremony on 21 May in Sydney. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic night, with HarperVoyager sponsoring the evening, but it’s a mountain of work. If I had a book sale for every e-mail I’ve sent…
If you’re keen on attending the ceremony, all the details are but a click away. The list of finalists was also circulated today, so congratulations to everyone who made the short-lists.
