Following on from my last update, the winners of the Ditmar Awards were announced at the Australian National Convention. “Tender Morsels” by Margo Lanagan, which was short-listed for the Locus Award in the US, was a deserving winner in the novel category. The complete results can be found on the Conjecture website.

Progress on my second novel has slowed dramatically of late, but for the very best of reasons. My wife and I were thrilled by the safe arrival of our second daughter back in June. One month on, I’m pleased to say that she’s doing well and our household is slowly settling into a new routine. Quality sleep remains elusive, so that’s made it hard to write in the margins of each day. The silver lining from this enforced break is a fresher perspective on what I’ve written to date, which will help enormously with my looming edit.

Since I don’t have much else to report on the literary front, I thought I’d mention some other works that might be of interest. Stephen Irwin’s debut novel, The Dead Path is receiving some positive attention and has been compared by HorrorScope to Stephen King’s “Bag of Bones”. Definitely one to check out.

Also, well-established fantastist Richard Harland has just had his latest novel, called Worldshaker, released into the wild. It’s already sold into the US and the UK, and seems destined to live up to its title. And if that wasn’t enough, Richard generously shares his authorial expertise over at www.writingtips.com.au – 145 pages of great advice.

Thanks for stopping by.
