It’s been a while since the last update, so here goes….

AUREALIS Magazine – the flagship of Australian speculative fiction – has just released Issue 40. Competition to be published in Aurealis is fierce, so I’m delighted they decided to include my short story Spirals in the Sky. Issue 40 received a very positive review over at HorrorScope, so I’d urge anyone who enjoys speculative fiction to consider taking out a subscription. And it looks like I will have another short story appearing in a future issue.

BLACK Magazine has also just been launched by good friends Angela Challis & Shane Jiraiya Cummings. This new production looks dark, dangerous and very sexy. If you like shadows in your speculative fiction, this is another one to consider subscribing to. Plus I’m honoured to have an interview and review of FIVEFOLD in the inaugural edition.

While on the topic of FIVEFOLD, I was delighted to hear a review will be appearing in SPECTRUM, which is part of the weekend edition of the Sydney Morning Herald. Given the number of books published and the limited space for reviews, I’m absolutely chuffed to get a look-in. The review will be appearing towards the end of July, so keep an eye out if you live in Sydney.

On the subject of recommendations, I’ve been spending a little time exploring the www.goodreads.com site. If, like me, you love books and fancy reading a few opinions on a title before shelling out your hard-earned dosh, this site might be for you. It also allows you to review books that you’ve read, network with friends (send me an invite!) and connect with authors. Well worth a look.

Finally, my second novel is progressing well and has passed 90,000 words. Intended to be a loose prequel to FIVEFOLD, it’s set during the crusading era and will provide the historical context for some of the events that occurred in FIVEFOLD. I have a working title, but am still coy about releasing it into the wild. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

All the best,
Nathan.
