Review: Prince of Fools

Prince of Fools
Prince of Fools by Mark Lawrence
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m a fan of Lawrence’s previous trilogy (Prince, King and Emperor of Thorns) and I can understand why he avoided creating another Jorg Ancrath (the protagonist of the original trilogy). Still, I never warmed to Jalan Kendeth, the protag of this book and sole point-of-view character, even though others have found him amusing. It’s a testament to Lawrence’s skill as a writer, and the pacing of his prose, that I gobbled up this story nonetheless.

4 stars and a tip of the hat to Lawrence for attempting something different in the Epic Fantasy genre. Recommended.
